During two days of training, the student will learn how to write more complex SQL queries and use them to work with the data. Students will learn what are ranks, subqueries, temporary tables, how to write dynamic SQL and work with stored procedures and functions.

SUMMARY

The amount of data generated in the databases becomes increasingly bigger and skills to query analytical database are must to answer a business question. SQL is a standard in working with databases and knowing the SQL query language in analytical business becomes an absolutely necessary skill. During two days of training, the student will learn how to write more complex SQL queries and use them to work with the data. Students will learn what are ranks, subqueries, temporary tables, how to write dynamic SQL and work with stored procedures and functions. Learning the SQL query language will be done on the Microsoft SQL Server platform, and education involves demonstration of real-world examples.

OBJECTIVES

The goal of education is to prepare users for SQL queries over their own relational database, which will allow them to make simple to complex reports.

AUDIENCE

The course is intended for all interested participants who wish to expand their basic knowledge of the SQL query language. This course is intended for business and technical users, regardless of experience.

Day 1:

  • Ranking Functions (RANK, DENSE_RANK, NTILE, ROW_NUMBER)
  • Exercise 1.
  • Assume you use ALL, SOME, ANY, EXISTS operators
  • Exercise 2.
  • Correlated subqueries
  • Exercise 3.
  • CTE (Common Table Expression)
  • Exercise 4.

Day 2:

  • Temporary tables
  • Exercise 1.
  • Dynamic SQL
  • Exercise 2.
  • Stored procedures and functions
  • Exercise 3.
  • Merge multiple table expressions (CROSS and OUTER APPLY)
  • Exercise 4.
